Louisiana is a southern state that is often regarded as the best example of a subtropical climate in the United States. The summers in this state and long and humid while the winters are quite short and mild. Two major regions compose the basic geography of Louisiana, the uplands and swamps. While the northern region is called the uplands, it’s highest point actually only reaches about 530 feet above sea level. This makes Louisiana the third flattest state in the country. Water is the primary concern of auto shippers in Louisiana. Frequent thunderstorms and hurricanes can wreak havoc on dams and levies causing severe floods over major highways and roads.
Few states in the United States experience more natural disasters than Louisiana, making it a wild card state for auto shippers. The flat and heavily levied geography makes even mild hurricanes very destructive. There are an average of 60 severe thunderstorms every year along with 27 tornadoes. While the southern portion of the state is vulnerable to cyclones, the central and northern parts of the state experience the tornadoes.
Three major highways run through Louisiana that are frequently used by auto shippers – I-10 (southern East to West), I-49 (North to South) and I-20 (northern East to West).
