Bordered by Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and Maryland, West Virginia is a mid-Atlantic state that is commonly associated with a wide variety of topography and widely forested areas. However diverse in elevation, the entire state is located in the Appalachian Mountain range. This can cause challenges for auto shippers as some major highways wind and curve around hills and forests and have the potential to lengthen traveling time. Winters can get cold in West Virginia, especially in areas located at higher elevations. During the winter, the combination of slow shipping speeds, curvy roads and snow typically call for enclosed haulers. However, the summer and spring are quite mild in most parts of the state making an open hauler acceptable for most vehicles.
The two major highways in West Virginia include Interstate 77 and Interstate 68. Interstate 77 runs from North to South in the western portion of the state while Interstate 68 runs from the northeast corner to where it meets with Interstate 77 in Charleston. In addition, Interstate 64 is a popular auto shipping route from central Virginia as it runs into West Virginia and meets Interstate 77 in the city of Beckley.
